Kane County Chronicle 08/29/07
Kane County has the highest poverty rate in the collar counties....... Kane County had the highest poverty rate among the five collar counties, with 8.3 percent of citizens living at or below the poverty line in 2006. The closest collar counties to Kane's rate are McHenry and Will counties, at 5.8 percent each.
What should our county leaders do to change these numbers?

With the high rate of citizens at or below poverty and with one of the highest unemployment rates in the state the County Board should lead by example. Use vendors and consultants from Kane to help keep the money and jobs inside Kane. Take care of our citizens they pay taxes and vote!
they should hire Jim
There a plenty of quailified firms in Kane County to do the work that this county needs, but it continues to hire from outside the county. Why is that?
I don't think Jim has ever asked for work or does he want anything from the county except spend it in Kane when ever possible. Some of the land deals in this county also have a little smell to them.
With an alleged high rate of poverty, we need to focus on upward mobility. Many of the poor come to Kane Co, work low wages in service or construction. Within 5 years they own their own restuarant or construction business and are in the middle class.
Other equally poor wait for the government program to help them deal with their poverty.
Which kind of poor do we want to attract to Kane Co, those who want to be rich? Or those who want to be the underclass?
Inherently, those who start off in a new, small business in Kane Co will have low or absorbed overhead. To get the business they will bid lower than the big guys. The big guys call this buying market share when they do it. But it is called unfair competition when the little guy does it.
If bids are truly competitive the new, small local business will have the edge. If the bids are rigged with clauses such as "
"continuity of service with the past" then in or outside Kane is irrelevant to the real issue.
